Day 9: How Many Ways Can You Say Lazy Day at the Lake?

Boys:
- Do not change their clothes without serious prompting.
- Enjoy eating, anything
- Are very inventive: Let's ride a child's kayak with two of us!
- Gravitate towards jack knives, axes and fire.

Breakfast in yesterday's clothes.

Micha cooked up bacon, onion, pepper, potato hash.

When are our friends coming?  It is getting lonely here.

Alex 'treated' himself to a Hungry Man tv dinner from IGA yesterday.
Ew.

Bailey was not too sure about this but was as obedient as ever.

Two boys, one small boat.

Always game to try something new. Somehow 'riding backwards on a pig baby monkey' comes to mind.

Day 8: Camp Life - Kraft Dinner and Pugs

Our first full day at Hotel Lake.   We made the best of the good weather by sampling all that camp life has to offer.

Stocking up at the IGA in Madeira Park, swims to the dock, hanging out with the Rosie the Dog, ping pong on the warped table, and learning how to cook Kraft Dinner.

All is well.

Mom and Dad are in Victoria for the graduation of Asher and Shaelyn. Today they celebrate their 53rd anniversary, too. We will celebrate together on July 4th which is also Dad's birthday.

Good morning, World.

Supporting the local economy and keeping three boys fed.

Kraft Dinner cooking lessons.

Rosie, the camp dog, pauses for a selfie with me in the field.

An evening slug checking out Dominic's boogie board.

Day 7: Relocating to Hotel Lake

Ah, our move to Hotel Lake and the Lakeside Campground has finally come.  After working in the morning I got the Gypsy Wagon ready for a very short relocation drive from Mom and Dad's oceanfront cabin to the lake about 1.5 kms away.

Micha and the boys left Kelowna at 5 am and made quick time travelling over the Coquihalla to the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal north of Vancouver. A short ferry ride and a little more driving and soon I can hear them honking as they round the final bend on their Hotel Lake approach.

Camp is surprisingly full as the July 1st holiday fell on a Friday this year. Typically, the place is deserted for the first few days.  That is OK, it is a little more cheerful this way. We look forward to the rest of the group arriving in a few days. Soon, sites 1 through 5 will be full of Loenen's and friends. Nice!

The boys are getting older. This is the first year that they have not terrorized the minnows.  But, walking along the submerged log to get to the Tippy Dock never gets old.  They rounded out their day by sitting around eating chips, throwing the football in the field and watching The Hobbit on their computer in their own personal drive-in theatre under the stars. Not bad, eh?!

Here they come - horn honking all the way.

The Tippy Dock is alive and well.

The best camping spot ever.

An office with a view.

Dominic and Ashton sharing deep thoughts on the dock.
Camp hair, don't care.

Chips, Calvin and Hobbes and Archie comics.

The Loon has been spotted!

This log is always delightfully slimy as we are usually the first to walk it each season.

An office with a view.

An evening walk up the hill to check out the ocean sunset.

The Hobbit was playing at the teenager-only outdoor theatre.

Day 6: A Day of Solitude, Summer School Begins

Today Mom and Dad made an early start back to Richmond.  They are enroute to Victoria to celebrate the Grade 12 graduation of two of their grandchildren. So the cabin is very still and quiet today.

This is perfect as I have allowed the marking and e-mails to pile up all weekend.  With the start of summer school and the end of regular school it makes for a busy time helping stressed out students through the process.

That said, there really is no better place to be than sitting in front of picture windows when plowing through a bunch of online work.

Back in Kelowna today the boys reported that our Robin eggs have hatched and Alex's baseball team won their Bantam A season end tournament. Way to go, Llamas!

Day 5 Precarious Perches and Dinner at The Painted Boat

Sunday in Pender Harbour.

A slow coffee morning followed was followed by the morning service at Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church. What a delight to see long time friends of Mom and Dad's from the Lower Mainland up on the Sunshine Coast and at the service, too.

Come for lunch!  This proved to be a treasured visit as they reflected on the passing of their mutual long time friend just days earlier.

After a lazy afternoon we went to the Lady Jayne to pump out the bilge as it has a mysterious and secretive little leak somewhere. Then it was off to Madeira Park to have dinner at The Painted Boat.

Why did I feel that backing up that extra 5 feet was a good idea again?  Instead of resting in the dip of the driveway, I am on a slight hill which is putting far too much force on my, now very high, trailer hitch post.  So unnecessary. Hitching and unhitching when on a slope that forces your trailer towards the truck is never a really great idea.

Dutch camping with a view.

Lee Bay at the mouth of Pender Harbour, looking south with Vancouver Island in the far distance.

Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, Pender Harbour.

Dad built this cross for the memorial garden behind the church some time ago. It is much more lovely in person.

Nearly one year after winning a gift certificate to the posh Painted Boat, Mom and Dad and I savoured our dinners as the evening sun set over Francis Peninsula.
