Day 8: Tillamook Cheese Factory

Never too old to have fun.

This is our last full day on the Oregon Coast before we need to head north again. We had pie for breakfast, took a morning beach stroll, relocated to a new site and then toured the Tillamook Cheese factory.  In the evening we watched the sun set over the Pacific Ocean after spying a deer and its fawn nibbling their way between the campsites. It was a very good day.

Pie for breakfast.

Behold our third site in our four night stay. We did get a one night reservation for our last night; however, it was in a short site with poor backing-in options as the driveway for the site was at an acute angle (the wrong way) relative to the access lane. I will spare you the details.  Needless to say I obsessed for two days as to how I could execute the perfect jackknife on the first try so that my trailer was in the spot while wondering if my hitch would be left sticking out onto to the road.

Fast forward to our morning coffee walk which just happened to swing by the ranger hut. We nonchalantly inquired if there were any vacancies in the park this evening for one night only. You see, we actually have a spot; however, it is going to be a bit tricky to back into . . . . . SCORE THE BEST RANGER EVER who moved us into a lovely site with the best access angles.  Can you say, "Upgrade!?" Sigh, we lead a charmed last minute campsite life.

I have been bugging Marianne all week about how 'matchy matchy' she is.  Her clothing matches her hair which matches her coffee cup which match her sandals.  Clearly, I need to up my game; however, I can't compete with matching the local wildlife.

A steam engine for the tourists in Rockaway, OR along Highway 101 as we make our way south to see the Tillamook Cheese Factory.

The newly renovated and expanded Tillamook Creamery.

Tasty!

Debbie!! Your herd needs this. Maybe this is what is meant on the Ben and Jerry's ice cream ingredients list:  'cream from happy cows'.

Making the RV oven work for us. Yummy!!

Mom and fawn out for an evening stroll. We were just lucky to notice them as we ate dinner inside the trailer.

A millipede on the dunes.

Sisters in the setting sun.

Fare thee well, Oregon Coast. Until next time.

Day 7: Cannon Beach, Mo's and Marion Berry Pie.

Indian Beach in Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, OR.

Best caption wins pie.

What a difference a day makes. Today we traded sunshine and blue sky for thick fog and coastal damp. We head north a short ways to visit our favourite haunts in the Cannon Beach area:  Ecola State Park, Mo's Seafood Restaurant and a walk to Haystack Rock.

On the way back to camp we found pie! It was a good day.

Fog rolls up over the roadway as we climb out of Nehalem Bay.

The drive through Ecola State Park to Indian Beach is a lush, ferny delight.

There are a few brave souls trying to surf. The cormorants watch from their cliff perches.

We are selfie junkies.  OK, maybe I am a selfie junky.

It took an embarrassingly large number of tries to capture us both airborne at the same time. Good thing this beach was sparsely populated.

Gooseneck barnacles.

A row of pelicans cheer on the surfers.

One last look before we head into town.

This pelican joined us from the gift shop.

This is Mom and Dad's favourite place to go so we sent Mom pictures as we ate.

The Cannonball Bowl - my favourite.

Marianne rang every bell in the shop to find just the right do-dad for her deck.

Pelican rejoined his friends on our way out.

Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach, OR.

Nothing fresher than still-moving crab lunch.

Marion berry pie. Tastes like Blackberry Pie.

Cute little pie and cookie shop.

We've upgraded!  Just kidding. These are our neighbours.
